Irving Municipal Court offers the widest choice of ways to request a driving safety course of the courts we’ve checked — online, by email, by mail, by eFax or in person — but the window is short: 21 calendar days.

Requesting the course

Use the court’s Driving Safety Course Affidavit — there’s one form for tickets outside a school zone and another for school zones. Send it with a copy of your driver license and your insurance:

  • online through the court’s payment portal;
  • by email to court@IrvingTX.gov;
  • by mail to P.O. Box 152288, Irving, TX 75015-2288;
  • by eFax to (972) 721-2383; or
  • in person at 305 N. O’Connor Rd.

Deadline and fee: the form says to return the affidavit, “the $144 administrative fee and copy of insurance no later than 21 calendar days from the date your citation was issued”. The $144 is non-refundable and includes a $10 administrative fine. Check the school-zone form for that amount.

If you request by mail, wait for the court’s written permission before you take the course.

After the course

“Upon approval, you will be granted 90 days to complete the course and to obtain a certified copy of your driving record.” File:

  1. your completion certificate;
  2. your Type 3A driving record (how to order it).

Out-of-date details on the form

Irving’s affidavit form still mentions approval by the “Texas Central Education Agency” (courses are approved by TDLR now), an old email address ending in cityofirving.org, and a “$10 to the DPS” record fee — the Type 3A record costs $12 online today. Use the current email address above, and choose a TDLR-approved course.
